Your Lifepath Number

The Lifepath Number is the most important of all the numbers in your numerology chart and describes the main theme you are here to experience. It is your overall life theme and is the major energy you are working with here on Earth. Most numerologists describe the Lifepath number as a life “lesson”, but I prefer the term “experience” as “lesson” implies that if we don’t get it right the first time we are a glutton for punishment to return and “get it right” the next time. I believe the true purpose of life on Earth is to experience these energies using our senses… and therefore the energy of the lifepath number encapsulates the overall theme and direction of our life.

Sometimes you might not completely resonate with what your lifepath number says about you. This is because the lifepath number represents your biggest challenge, and is who you are meant to become.

How to calculate your Lifepath Number

The Lifepath Number in numerology is calculated by adding up all of the digits of your birth date, and then adding them together again until you get one single digit. Take for example Melanie who was born on the 27th December 1986:

2 + 7 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 36/9
3 + 6 = 9

Melanie’s Lifepath Number is therefore 9.

Master number calculations

When calculating the lifepath number using the method above, the exception to reducing again to a single digit is if you get a Master Number 11, 22 or 33. These master “double numbers” are special in numerology as they have extra meaning that should be included in the person’s reading. For example, Julie who was born on 18th October 1963:

1 + 8 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 3 = 29
2 + 9 = 11
/2

Notice that we don’t reduce the 11 a further time to 2, but rather read the life path number as “11/2”. This is because the double 1 will have a profound influence on Julie’s life, making her more independent and driven compared to someone whose birthday adds to 20, whose life experience would be much more feminine and peaceful.
